Kent Rilatos joined the STAHS Board of Directors in February 2023.
Kent is the proud son of Manual and Clarice Rilatos, grandson of Tuton and Pearl Rilatos and great-grandson of Hoxie and Lizzie Simmons.
Kent is an actively involved member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Since 1994, he has fulfilled roles on multiple Tribal Standing Committees; Budget Committee, Education Committee, and Natural Resources Committee. Prior to becoming a special education teacher, Kent worked for the Siletz Tribal Economic Development Commission (STEDCO) in mill management and was the Youth Coordinator for the Siletz Tribe. He worked in Alaska for many years as a teacher and coach. In 2011 and 2014 while the Head Coach for the Wasilla Warriors, he was named Alaska Coach of the Year.
He currently is honored to be in the position of Vice Principal/Athletic Director for the Siletz Valley Schools. Facilitating Tribal activities and cultural enhancement within the schools is one of Kent’s passions. Within this role, he supports teaching Tribal language, drumming, as well as raw material processing for weaving regalia and baskets. Kent strives to pass on what he has learned of these crafts to the youth of his school and the community.
Kent is enthusiastic to be a steward of cultivating and preserving the history of the Siletz Tribe by sharing his knowledge as well as continually learning more about the Tribal arts, culture, and heritage. He is excited to contribute to the legacy of STAHS as a Board Member.
