
Meet Thalya (Tuh-Lee-Yuh) Contreras!
Thalya jointed the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society (STAHS) as the Executive Director in August 2025, bringing energy, dedication, and a strong commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement.
Thalya holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting with a Spanish minor from Saint Martin’s University, located on the ancestral lands of the Nisqually Tribe in Lacey, Washington. She is continuing her studies to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), further reflecting her dedication to proficiency in financial operations and ongoing professional development.
Before joining STAHS, Thalya worked as a Substitute Teacher for the Salem-Keizer Public Schools. She worked with diverse student populations and became a trusted figure in the classroom, known for her approachable nature and ability to connect with students.
Thalya is passionate about making a positive and meaningful impact in any community she serves. She enjoys learning and is looking forward to engaging with the rich history and traditions of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians while supporting STAHS’ mission to support and promote the practice, conservation, and restoration of tribal cultures.
